Background
Dr. Levin is chair emeritus of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Penn Medicine, the Paul B. Magnuson Professor of Bone and Joint Surgery, and a professor of Plastic Surgery. A pioneer of orthoplastic surgery — the combined orthopaedic and plastic-surgery approach to severely injured limbs — he helped develop techniques enabling limb salvage instead of amputation for many patients. He co-directs the Orthoplastics and Limb Salvage Fellowship together with Drs. Stephen Kovach and Samir Mehta, training fellows in advanced extremity reconstruction and microvascular limb-salvage surgery, and also holds a courtesy appointment at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.
