How we rank (and what money can’t buy)
Every clinic is scored the same way, from the same public inputs.
We collect each clinic's rating on every independent review platform it appears on: Google, Trustpilot, Doctify, Jameda, Doctoralia and others. Each rating is normalized to a 5-point scale. Platforms are then weighted twice. By credibility: Google carries the most weight, Trustpilot next, doctor-booking sites the least, because a handful of friendly five-star reviews on a booking site is easy to get. And by volume: a rating backed by hundreds of reviews outweighs one backed by a few dozen, with each additional review adding a little less than the last. Finally the result is pulled toward the field average in proportion to how little evidence stands behind it, so a clinic with few reviews lands near the middle, not at the top.
A clinic is ranked only if it has at least 30 reviews on one platform and at least 40 in total. 106 of the 192 verified clinics clear that bar; the other 86 are listed but not ranked. In the top 20, three clinics score 4.9, fourteen score 4.8, and three score 4.7; review counts, not decimals, separate them.
The score decides sort order and nothing else. Every platform is shown separately with its own count, never blended into one invented average. Tier (1, 2 or 3) records how much verified detail we hold on a clinic, not a quality grade. Enhanced Profiles and partner badges change presentation only: they cannot move a clinic's rank, score or tier, and no clinic can pay to change a review.
What “best” does not mean
"Best" here means best-reviewed with enough evidence to trust the reviews. Not best surgeon, not best outcomes. Four things to read before you act on a rank.
Hospital-wide listings. 40 of the 106 qualifying records are Google listings for an entire institution: Vejthani in Bangkok (15,000 reviews), Sunway Medical Centre (17,000), RS Pondok Indah in Jakarta (6,000), Pinnacle Orthopaedics in Marietta (4,200) and California Pacific Orthopaedics in San Francisco (1,600) among them. Those reviews cover every department and every procedure, not the limb lengthening program. They are ranked in their own table, not against the 66 dedicated clinics and surgeon practices, because a hospital-wide rating and a specialist's 60 reviews are not the same kind of evidence. For them the score rates the institution, not the lengthening program; read the lead surgeon column instead.
Tier 3 entries. Two of the top 20 are Tier 3: Connecticut Orthopaedics (#10), West Coast Lengthening (#15). Tier is research depth, not quality; California Pacific has no method recorded yet.
No outcome registry. No clinic publishes its complication rate per surgeon, and no registry collects it. The best evidence is pooled: Marwan's 2020 systematic review covers 795 patients across 11 studies, Giorgino's 2025 review 760 across 12, and neither names a clinic. So verify what can be verified: the named surgeon, the method, what the price covers, and whether the clinic discloses complications. North America — top 5 of 33 qualifying
33 clinics qualify, 32 in the USA and 1 in Canada, the largest regional set. Eight of the top 20 are American, led by Pinnacle Orthopaedics in Marietta (#3, 4.9 on 4,200 Google reviews, a hospital-wide listing) and Johns Hopkins in Baltimore (#8, 4.8 on 692), the highest US entry that is not a hospital-wide listing.
