Background
Shawn R. Gilbert is Chief of Orthopedics at Children's of Alabama and a Professor of Surgery in UAB's Division of Orthopaedic Surgery, where he also serves as Section Chief for Pediatrics. He earned his MD from the University of North Carolina School of Medicine, completed residency at UNC Hospitals and a pediatric orthopaedic fellowship at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta (2003), and is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. He founded the Limb Deformities Program at Children's of Alabama in 2003 and has developed expertise in complex spine, hip and limb deformities, including limb lengthening. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Orthopaedic Association, the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America, the Scoliosis Research Society and the Limb Lengthening and Reconstruction Society.
