Alexander Lerner is a full clinical professor at Bar-Ilan University's Azrieli Faculty of Medicine and a senior physician in the orthopedic department at Ziv Medical Center in Safed, where he formerly served as department head before officially retiring from that post in 2021. He trained in the Ilizarov method directly through Ilizarov's own school in Russia and is credited as one of the founders of Ilizarov-based limb reconstruction in Israel. A member of AO (Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Osteosynthesefragen), he has authored or co-authored more than 80 scientific articles and edited four medical textbooks on limb trauma and reconstruction, including "Armed Conflict Injuries to the Extremities" (Springer). He is an orthopedic consultant to the IDF Medical Corps and, since October 2023, has volunteered treating wounded soldiers across several Israeli medical centers.
