Dr. Ayres Fernando Rodrigues graduated in Medicine from the Universidade Federal de Mato Grosso do Sul (1991–1996) and completed his orthopaedic residency at HU-UFMS (1997–1999). He then trained in the pseudarthrosis and external-fixation group at HC-FMUSP in São Paulo (2001–2002) and completed external-fixation fellowships in Lecco and Milan, Italy, in 2008. He earned a PhD in Biophotonics Applied to Health Sciences at Universidade Nove de Julho in 2023, with a thesis on photobiomodulation and silver-nanoparticle carbon material in bone infection, and is pursuing postdoctoral research in the same field. He leads the bone reconstruction and lengthening service at Hospital IFOR (Rede D'Or São Luiz), where he coordinates the fellowship, and works in the orthopaedic trauma and external-fixator group at HSPE-IAMSPE. He was President of ASAMI Brasil, the Brazilian association for Ilizarov reconstruction and lengthening, for its 2025 term and sits on its fiscal council in 2026.
